Dan's Interview:

Q: What inspired/gravited you towards this career?

A: I knew I wanted to work with animals, and I realize other fields of work with animals are not up to my standard of ethics, I decided this was my best option.

Q: What training/education do you need for this job?

A: I was trained at Angell Memorial for basic restraints and sub-q injections. I did not attend veterinarian school. I do have a BA in psycho-biology, concentrating on animal behaviors.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: I like my coworkers. But I also like seeing animals get back to their owners because they are so thrilled and excited to reunite with them.

Q: What would you like to change about your job?

A: I would like to see more focus on the patient's confort. For example during ail trimming sessions, every dog is either stressed or scared, because nail trimming hurts for them. I am not saying the standard for the confort of our patients is low, it's is just not as high as I would like it to be.

Q: Has this industry surprised you in any way, shape, or form? Or did you predict everything like how it is right now?

A: I realize not everyone here has the intention to help the animals, and this surprised me a lot. Some people here are not focusing on the patients, but they are focusing on themselves. They are not here for the patient's wellness, but they are focused more on the job and to play with the animals.

Q: Are you satisfied with the work environment/hours you are given right now?

A: Not really. I hope I can get more hours; not only more hours, but more consistent hours. I also hope this clinic is more organized, since this clinic is ran by multiple of vet doctors.

Q: What is one thing that you think I should know about this job if I am thinking about going into it as a career?

A: I think the best advice is to take care of yourself mentally/emotionally and physically. In this field of work there is a high instance of drug abuse and depression.
