PROMPT: All of you should have time to have lunch at your jobs--it’s part of your worker rights. What’s lunchtime like? Do you eat with employees, or do you eat on your own? Do employees eat together regularly, or must they eat what they can when they can? How does the way lunchtime is treated at your job reflect the job itself?
Everyone eats lunch when the clinic isn't busy. I rarely see employees eat lunch together. The typical lunch setting on a regular day is people would eat their lunches facing the computer screen; they would be checking their emails or filing through documents while they eat. The only time when employees eats lunch together is when there is a lunch meeting. Even that itself is half business and half lunch break. Everyone at the clinic eats on their own or whenever they have a minute they will stop and fuel up. The way lunchtime works at the clinic reflects how busy everyone is and how committed they are to their job, but it also creates a sense of isolation. When the clinic is not busy with patients everywhere, everyone seems to busy themselves with other work, and this shows me that people at the clinic has good work ethic. Instead of lounging around and be on their phones, they work. As a teenager, I know if I can get a second to lack off, I probably will. But being in an environment like the clinic, it inspired me to be more productive.
WEEKLY REFLECTION:
This week a dog patient came in with an anal infection, and I had the honor to hold the patient down while the doctor checked up on the infection. The check up was quick, but it was not quick enough for me to hold my breath for that long. I got a good whiff of the infected area, and I did not enjoy it one single bit. Moving on from that, this week I also observed a mini mass-removal procedure. I have seen other mass-removal procedures in the past, but this procedure was different from the other ones. This time, the doctor used a laser pen to slice off the mass. The smell of burnt flesh was in the air. As the doctor made contact with his pen on the flesh of the unconscious patient, you can see smoke coming out from the contact. Reflecting back on it, this week has definitely been a very eventful one.
